The
Center for American Studies stores the books in an open stack system.
Books are shelved by subject (Library of Congress Classification Number).
The collection can be consulted in the open stacks or in the Center’s
reading room where a large number of reference tools is housed.
The
books can also be lent through interlibrary loan.

In
the Center’s reading room several screens provide access to the Royal
Library’s online catalog, which contains the holdings of the CAS.
In
addition, these screens give direct access to other Belgian library
catalogs and European national library catalogs, as well as to national
union catalogs as the CCB, the VLACC, Antilope, etc.
The
Catalogue of Pre-1900 Imprints Relating to America in the Royal Library
Brussels, by Margaret Gale Nicholson (3 vol.), contains over 8.000 titles
of Americana, most of which are not in the online catalog.

CAS offers free Internet access.
For
the various collections on microfilm, microfiche and ultracard,
a
reader-printer scanner is available.
A
photocopy machine and several computers are at the disposal of the researchers. |
