SUMMARY:In the footsteps of Bart Van Loo and the Burgundians in the KBR museum
DESCRIPTION:Bart Van Loo invites you to view one of the most fascinating periods of our history through his eyes: an era in which art and power elevate one another to new heights. Together with KBR\, he has created a remarkable museum route. Here you will discover original watercolours by Jean-Léon Huens\, presented alongside exceptional manuscripts\, prints and engravings from the KBR collections. \nThese documents illustrate Bart’s fascination with history and make the world of the Burgundian court tangible. For this route\, he wrote texts that capture the Burgundian origins of our shared history. \nThrough the eyes of a born storyteller\nThe watercolours of Jean-Léon Huens\, which he literally gazed at endlessly as a teenager\, sparked his love of history. Illustration no. 182\, Nancy\, planted a seed that years later would grow into The Burgundians: A Vanished Empire. Bart dreamed of seeing Huens’ original illustrations alongside the centuries-old treasures of KBR\, next to manuscripts once touched by Philip the Good and his contemporaries. Experience how small emotions and grand history meet\, and how imagination and the past merge in a single glance. \n\n \n Buy your ticket \n\n \n \n Discover the KBR museum \n\n \n  \nContinue your discovery in Brussels\nYour journey through the Burgundian world does not have to end at the KBR museum. Using the VRT PodWalks app\, you walk past places where the Burgundian past can still be felt today \, from Place Royale\, via Hotel Ravenstein and the Nassau Chapel\, to the Grand Place and St Michael and St Gudula Cathedral. \n\n \n More information about the podwalk \n\n \n  \nPractical informations\n\nWhen ? 21 March au 18 October 2026\nWhere ? KBR museum\nPrice\n\n0€ : under 18\, MuseumPASSmusées\, teacher card\, people with disabilities\, job seekers\, ICOM card\, Belspo card\, Brussels Card\n8€ : 65+\, students\n11€ : Standard rate

SUMMARY:Self-guided workshop: writing with a quill & painting with pigments
DESCRIPTION:At the end of the Middle Ages\, Brussels belonged to the dukes of Burgundy. These rich and powerful rulers and cultured benefactors built up a treasure of inestimable value: the Librairie\, a unique collection of manuscripts. Many of the works in this collection\, which have survived the ravages of time\, are preserved at KBR. You can admire them today at the KBR museum. \nCombine your visit to the museum with this self-guided drop-in session and explore your skills as a medieval miniaturist or copyist. We provide all the materials and set you up comfortably—you just have to let your creativity flow! \n  \nPainting with pigments\nIn the Middle Ages\, illuminators did not use watercolours or gouache in their studios. They made their colours directly from natural materials or pigments imported from faraway lands. Discover the pleasure of creating your own colours from powdered pigments and gum arabic\, then illuminate a coat of arms or a detail of a manuscript! \n  \nWriting with a quill\nTry your hand at calligraphy! Leave your phones\, games and tablets at home and become a copyist for a few hours. Quill in hand\, discover the art of tracing letters. Tame the thickness of the strokes\, take care to round off the lines and avoid smudges… After this experience\, you’ll be able to see the artists in action and admire even more the work of the artists who\, centuries ago\, wrote the fabulous manuscripts on display at the KBR museum. \n  \nPractical info\n\nWhen?\n\nOn 11 July from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM\nOn 11 July from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM\nOn 12 July from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM\nOn 12 July from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM\n\n\nWhere?
\n  \nPractical info\n\nWhen?\n\nOn 1 August from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM\nOn 1 August from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM\nOn 2 August from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM\nOn 2 August from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM\n\n\nWhere? SUMMARY:MetaBelgica: Shared Heritage\, Shared Data
DESCRIPTION:How can we collaborate across institutions and domains to curate heritage data? How can authority data\, vocabularies and metadata practices be aligned across institutions while respecting institutional autonomy? How can we improve the interoperability\, quality and reuse of heritage data and digitised collections? How can a shared linked open data platform such as Wikibase be maintained?  \nOver the last three years\, four Federal Scientific (heritage) Institutions have worked together within the MetaBelgica project to develop a shared semantic infrastructure that brings together individuals and organisations linked to Belgian heritage collections.  \nOn 18 November\, the Royal Library of Belgium\, the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage\, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and the Royal Museums of Art and History are organising the international “Shared Heritage\, Shared Data” conference. During the conference\, the MetaBelgica partners and other European heritage institutions will share their experiences of managing authority data\, among others via Linked Data platforms. They will highlight the best practices and pitfalls encountered along the way.  \nThe conference aims to strengthen cooperation with (inter)national partners and enable more coherent\, FAIR and semantically connected access to distributed collections\, supporting research and reuse by society. \nInternational conference | 18 November 2026 | on-site at KBR or online \n\n \n Register now \n\n \n \n Discover the MetaBelgica Project \n\n \nDISCOVER THE PROGRAMME \n9:00  Registration  \n9:30 Welcoming words  \n9:40 MetaBelgica\, Welcome from project team and introduction of the day  \n9:45  Keynote: Antoine Isaac (Europeana)  \n  \n10:30  Break  \n\n11:00 Sven Lieber (Royal Library of Belgium | KBR)\, MetaBelgica project results  \n11:40  Federal Open Science Cloud | FedOSC\, FAIR Heritage Data \n  \n12:00 Lunch break \n  \n13:00  Barbara Fischer (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek | DNB)\, The GND or Integrated Authority File  \n13:20  Enno Meijers (Dutch Digital Heritage Network | NDE )\, Building the network of connected heritage information  \n13:40  Axelle Vanmaele (meemoo)  \n14:00 Luc Wanlin (Archives et Musée de la Littérature | AML)\, SCAPIN : Technical and institutional challenges for a shared platform of performing arts memory in FWB  \n14:20 Edurne Kugeler (Musée national d’archéologie\, d’histoire et d’art Luxembourg | MNAHA)\, \nLUDAP – The Luxembourg Authority File Project   \n14:40 Vincent Boulet (Bibliothèque nationale de France | BnF) \n  \n15:00  Break  \n\n15:30 Panel discussion with previous speakers  \n16:30 Closing remarks  \n16:40  End  \n17:00  Library closes  \n\nThe conference provides a forum to:   \n\ncollaborate across heritage institutions and domains \n\n\nshare best practices and insights while curating cultural heritage entities \n\n\ndiscuss strategic developments and the future of (authority) data management  \n\n\nstrengthen professional networks and international cooperation  \n\nBy hosting this event\, KBR reaffirms its commitment to international collaboration\, high-quality and interoperable metadata\, and the continued development of expertise in the field of linked data and international standards.   \nThis event is taking place during the week of the DARIAH-EU General Assembly in Brussels and thus there will be an opportunity to follow parallel meetings to learn more about DH projects in Belgium\, EOSC & FEDOSC\, and AI in the heritage sector from 18 – 20 November.  \nPractical information   \n\nThis will be a hybrid event  \n\n\nRegistration is free\, but mandatory  \n\n\nEnglish will be the language of the conference  \n\n\nContacts for further information: metabelgica@kbr.be \n\n\nThe Panorama at KBR is accessible for people with reduced mobility  \n\n\nRecommended hotels  \n\nOrganisers  \n\nRoyal Library of Belgium (KBR) \n\n\nRoyal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) \n\n\nRoyal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (KMSKB-MRBAB) \nRoyal Museums of Art and History (KMKG-MRAH) \n\nFunding  \nThis conference is part of the MetaBelgica-project financed by the INFRA-FED call of BELSPO.
