During the late Middle Ages, our region was one of the most urbanized and prosperous areas of Europe. Den Troep’s medieval section focuses mainly on the mid-15th century, when Flanders and Brabant were part of the Burgundian Empire. This was the time of the Flemish Primitives and miniaturists, Brussels tapestries, and thriving cloth production – but also of strategic marriages and intense wars as the Burgundian dukes sought to expand their territory.
