SUMMARY:In the footsteps of Bart Van Loo and the Burgundians in the KBR museum
DESCRIPTION:Bart Van Loo invites you to view one of the most fascinating periods of our history through his eyes: an era in which art and power elevate one another to new heights. Together with KBR\, he has created a remarkable museum route. Here you will discover original watercolours by Jean-Léon Huens\, presented alongside exceptional manuscripts\, prints and engravings from the KBR collections. \nThese documents illustrate Bart’s fascination with history and make the world of the Burgundian court tangible. For this route\, he wrote texts that capture the Burgundian origins of our shared history. \nThrough the eyes of a born storyteller\nThe watercolours of Jean-Léon Huens\, which he literally gazed at endlessly as a teenager\, sparked his love of history. Illustration no. 182\, Nancy\, planted a seed that years later would grow into The Burgundians: A Vanished Empire. Bart dreamed of seeing Huens’ original illustrations alongside the centuries-old treasures of KBR\, next to manuscripts once touched by Philip the Good and his contemporaries. Experience how small emotions and grand history meet\, and how imagination and the past merge in a single glance. \n\n \n Buy your ticket \n\n \n \n Discover the KBR museum \n\n \n  \nContinue your discovery in Brussels\nYour journey through the Burgundian world does not have to end at the KBR museum. SUMMARY:Museum Night Fever
DESCRIPTION:Museum Night Fever is coming back to KBR! \nOn 17 October\, the richly illuminated manuscripts of the Dukes of Burgundy will come to life for one night. Music\, miniatures\, calligraphy and hybrid creatures hidden in the margins will leave their display cases and take over the museum. Polyphony will turn into electro\, miniatures and calligraphy will become live drawing\, while the playful creatures from the margins will transform into living clowns\, drag kings\, flowers and queens of hearts\, roaming the museum’s hidden corners. \n  \nOn the programme: \nAudiovisual show : ‘Volumen’ (Isidore\, Lydia Lubs & YLIÄM)\nStep into an audiovisual performance\, carefully catered to the night. Live drawing\, vocals\, keyboard\, and violin unfold together\, encapsulating the mood of the Middle Ages. Isidore and Lydia Lubs present an ambient soundscape featuring new material\, inspired by 15th century hymns and choral chants. All your senses will be called upon as YLÏAM draws in real time to the music\, to connect people\, places\, and time. Inspired by medieval polyphony\, calligraphy and manuscripts\, the artists blend ancient echoes and contemporary sounds. Complete your experience with a museum visit\, where the ‘drôleries’ from medieval miniatures are brought to life. \n\n\n\nAt 19:30\, 20:30\, 21:30\, 22:30\, 23:30 et 00:30. \n\n\n\n  \nBurlesque clown (Pauline le Pot de Fleur)\nAs the night awakens\, the museum comes to life. Strange creatures step out of the illuminations and wander between the books. Mythical animals\, chimerical beings and whimsical characters leave the margins of manuscripts to tell their stories. \nMeet Pauline the Sublime: an extravagant\, burlesque fool with blood-red lips and a crown that seems to touch the clouds. Accompanied by her curious menagerie\, she reveals the marvellous tales hidden within the museum. \nHear ye\, hear ye! Let yourself be swept away into a world where dreams take shape and illuminated manuscripts spring to life. \nEvery hour from 20:00 until 01:00\, during 30 minutes. \n  \nDrag King (Tigger Warming)\nIn the margins of medieval manuscripts\, you often find little burlesque scenes of animals\, hybrids and other creatures mocking certain social groups. Believe it or not\, centuries later\, ‘hybrid’ (or androgynous) figures still exist\, living on the margins (of society)\, using burlesque critique to challenge dominant social categories and their norms: drag artists. \nTonight\, you will glimpse one of them leaping out of a book to perform a societal sketch: Tigger Warming will have you read between their lines that one should never judge a book by its cover. \nEvery hour from 20:00 until 01:00\, during 30 minutes. \n  \nBird’s-eye view parcours and guides\n\n\n\nDiscover the illuminated treasures of the Dukes of Burgundy through Bird’s-Eye View\, a playful and sensory experience. Try your hand at medieval copying\, smell the process of bookmaking\, listen to stories about medieval animals\, bind your own notebook\, or marvel at characters that seem to leap from the parchment and dance above your head. Collect stamps along the way as keepsakes. Simply follow the trail of the Bird of Light!\n\n\n\nNonstop\, from 19:00. to 01:00. \n  \nIn the footsteps of Bart Van Loo and the Burgundians\nWith his international bestseller “The Burgundians”\, Bart Van Loo introduced the Burgundian saga to a wide audience. At the KBR Museum\, he presents a personal selection of manuscripts\, prints and printed books\, accompanied by vivid commentaries crafted in his distinctive style. An exhibition not to be missed: discover it before it closes on 18 October! \nNonstop\, from 19:00. to 01:00. \n  \n\n \n Buy your ticket

SUMMARY:MetaBelgica: Shared Heritage\, Shared Data
DESCRIPTION:How can we collaborate across institutions and domains to curate heritage data? How can authority data\, vocabularies and metadata practices be aligned across institutions while respecting institutional autonomy? How can we improve the interoperability\, quality and reuse of heritage data and digitised collections? How can a shared linked open data platform such as Wikibase be maintained? \nOver the last three years\, four Federal Scientific (heritage) Institutions have worked together within the MetaBelgica project to develop a shared semantic infrastructure that brings together individuals and organisations linked to Belgian heritage collections. \nOn 18 November 2026\, the Royal Library of Belgium\, the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage\, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and the Royal Museums of Art and History are organising the international “Shared Heritage\, Shared Data” conference. During the conference\, the MetaBelgica partners and other European heritage institutions will share their experiences of managing authority data\, among others via Linked Data platforms. They will highlight the best practices and pitfalls encountered along the way. \nThe conference aims to strengthen cooperation with (inter)national partners and enable more coherent\, FAIR and semantically connected access to distributed collections\, supporting research and reuse by society. \n  \nInternational conference | 18 November 2026 | on-site at KBR or online\n\n \n Register now \n\n \n \n Discover the MetaBelgica Project \n\n \n  \nDISCOVER THE PROGRAMME\n9:00  Registration  \n9:30 Welcoming words  \n9:40 MetaBelgica\, Welcome from project team and introduction of the day  \n9:45  Keynote: Antoine Isaac (Europeana) \n  \n10:30  Break  \n  \n11:00 Sven Lieber (Royal Library of Belgium | KBR)\, MetaBelgica project results  \n11:40  Annerose Tartler-Ostrizek (Federal Open Science Cloud | FedOSC)\, Connecting the Dots: advancing metadata and interoperability with FedOSC \n  \n12:00 Lunch break \n  \n13:00  Barbara Fischer (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek | DNB)\, Sharing authority – How the GND network strives to integrate further communities to enrich its authority files \n13:20  Enno Meijers (Dutch Digital Heritage Network | NDE )\, Building the network of connected heritage information  \n13:40  Axelle Vanmaele (meemoo)\, Visual Name Authority: a collaborative approach to person identification management \n14:00 Luc Wanlin (Archives et Musée de la Littérature | AML)\, SCAPIN : Technical and institutional challenges for a shared platform of performing arts memory in FWB  \n14:20 Edurne Kugeler (Musée national d’archéologie\, d’histoire et d’art Luxembourg | MNAHA)\, \nLUDAP – The Luxembourg Authority File Project   \n14:40 Vincent Boulet (Bibliothèque nationale de France | BnF)\, The French national program of “Bibliographic transition” : lessons and outcomes for authority data. \n  \n15:00  Break  \n  \n15:30 Panel discussion with previous speakers  \n16:30 Closing remarks  \n16:40  End  \n17:00  Library closes  \n  \n\n \n Register now \n\n \n  \n  \nThe conference provides a forum to: \n\ncollaborate across heritage institutions and domains\nshare best practices and insights while curating cultural heritage entities\ndiscuss strategic developments and the future of (authority) data management\nstrengthen professional networks and international cooperation\n\nBy hosting this event\, KBR reaffirms its commitment to international collaboration\, high-quality and interoperable metadata\, and the continued development of expertise in the field of linked data and international standards. \nThis event is taking place during the week of the DARIAH-EU General Assembly in Brussels and thus there will be an opportunity to follow parallel meetings to learn more about DH projects in Belgium\, EOSC & FEDOSC\, and AI in the heritage sector from 18 – 20 November. \n  \nPractical information\n\nThis will be a hybrid event\nRegistration is free\, but mandatory\nEnglish will be the language of the conference\nContacts for further information: metabelgica@kbr.be\nThe Panorama at KBR is accessible for people with reduced mobility\nRecommended hotels\n\n  \nOrganisers\n\nRoyal Library of Belgium (KBR)\nRoyal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA)\nRoyal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (KMSKB-MRBAB)\nRoyal Museums of Art and History (KMKG-MRAH)\n\n  \nFunding\nThis conference is part of the MetaBelgica-project financed by the INFRA-FED call of BELSPO. \n  \n  \n\n \n Register now
