American Studies collection now available in the General Reading Room

Update 16/08: From now on the American collection can be consulted in the General Reading Room (level 0). The reference books are also available in the Catalogue room.

The microfiche collection is currently not yet available to the public, but will be on hand in the future in the Newspapers Reading Room.

The American Collection

In the Belgian academic world, the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) is known for its American Studies collection thanks to the Center for American Studies nonprofit organization. Specialists from several universities act as professional referees and guarantee, together with the KBR, the quality of this collection.

Before, the Center for American Studies had a special reading room on the third floor where you could consult the Center’s materials. The CAS collection of more than 30,000 books was moved to the KBR book tower. The CAS services will now be located in the General Reading Room.

Expanded service

This integration into the General Reading Room does not mean that the collection or customer service will be reduced. On the contrary, the collection will continue to be completed and updated and the opening hours will be extended:

  • The American Studies collection will now be available on weekdays from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. and on Saturdays until 5.00 p.m. During the summer months opening hours are adapted.
  • The consultation conditions are the same as in the General Reading Room.
  • The reference works are incorporated in the nearby Catalogue Room.
  • The microfilms (American newspapers and periodicals) and microfiches (Library of American Civilization) can be consulted in the Newspaper Reading Room.
