With Loïe Fuller: Research, choreographer Ola Maciejewska offers a new look at the serpentine dances invented by Loïe Fuller. Attracted by the sculptural construction, an entity composed of textile, bamboo sticks, sounds, air and the centrifugal force of the body in an active loop, Maciejewska deconstructs this historical reference through hybrid forms produced by this construction. Invisible and visible, material and ephemeral, real and imaginary are carefully intertwined to play with what is given to see. Maciejewska had ‘negotiated with a ghost’ – the expression is hers – and played with the history of dance in order to create a visual poem, a fantastic tale: a fascinating cabinet of curiosities that is at once timeless and contemporary.

The performance will be preceded by a short intimate concert (15 min)

The ARTONOV Festival is inspired by the international Art Nouveau movement, both for its philosophy and its implementation, but also by the Japanese sensorial and multidisciplinary art. Its goal is to generate a convergence between the performing arts – music, dance, theatre – andfashion and visual arts, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and creation in Art Nouveau and Art Deco houses and other venues of remarkable architecture in Brussels.

The Festival presents a dozen original and innovative artistic performances featuring young people and professionals. It aims to offer artists, and primarily emerging artists, the opportunity to develop their artistic projects in a spirit of collaboration between generations, nationalities and artistic disciplines.
