Identifying serial publications

An ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is an 8-digit code used to identify serial publications such as newspapers, journals, magazines and periodicals, irrespective of their medium (print or electronic). An ISSN is unique and identifies a single serial publication.

The ISSN National Centre for Belgium within KBR manages the numbering of Belgian serial publications. ISSN is free of charge. Please note that the Centre does not manage ISBN.

When a serial is published in more than one form (e.g. print and online), a separate ISSN is necessary for each medium.
