Museum Night Fever is coming back to KBR!
On 17 October, the richly illuminated manuscripts of the Dukes of Burgundy will come to life for one night. Music, miniatures, calligraphy and hybrid creatures hidden in the margins will leave their display cases and take over the museum. Polyphony will turn into electro, miniatures and calligraphy will become live drawing, while the playful creatures from the margins will transform into living clowns, drag kings, flowers and queens of hearts, roaming the museum’s hidden corners.

Audiovisual show : ‘Volumen’ (Isidore, Lydia Lubs & YLIÄM)
Step into an audiovisual performance, carefully catered to the night. Live drawing, vocals, keyboard, and violin unfold together, encapsulating the mood of the Middle Ages. Isidore and Lydia Lubs present an ambient soundscape featuring new material, inspired by 15th century hymns and choral chants. All your senses will be called upon as YLÏAM draws in real time to the music, to connect people, places, and time. Inspired by medieval polyphony, calligraphy and manuscripts, the artists blend ancient echoes and contemporary sounds. Complete your experience with a museum visit, where the ‘drôleries’ from medieval miniatures are brought to life.

Burlesque clown (Pauline le Pot de Fleur)
As the night awakens, the museum comes to life. Strange creatures step out of the illuminations and wander between the books. Mythical animals, chimerical beings and whimsical characters leave the margins of manuscripts to tell their stories.
Meet Pauline the Sublime: an extravagant, burlesque fool with blood-red lips and a crown that seems to touch the clouds. Accompanied by her curious menagerie, she reveals the marvellous tales hidden within the museum.
Hear ye, hear ye! Let yourself be swept away into a world where dreams take shape and illuminated manuscripts spring to life.

Drag King (Tigger Warming)
In the margins of medieval manuscripts, you often find little burlesque scenes of animals, hybrids and other creatures mocking certain social groups. Believe it or not, centuries later, ‘hybrid’ (or androgynous) figures still exist, living on the margins (of society), using burlesque critique to challenge dominant social categories and their norms: drag artists.
Tonight, you will glimpse one of them leaping out of a book to perform a societal sketch: Tigger Warming will have you read between their lines that one should never judge a book by its cover.

Bird’s-eye view parcours and guides
Discover the illuminated treasures of the Dukes of Burgundy through Bird’s-Eye View, a playful and sensory experience. Try your hand at medieval copying, smell the process of bookmaking, listen to stories about medieval animals, bind your own notebook, or marvel at characters that seem to leap from the parchment and dance above your head. Collect stamps along the way as keepsakes. Simply follow the trail of the Bird of Light!

In the footsteps of Bart Van Loo and the Burgundians
With his international bestseller “The Burgundians”, Bart Van Loo introduced the Burgundian saga to a wide audience.
