On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Queen Elisabeth Competition and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elisabeth, KBR is hosting a special event.
In collaboration with Bpost, a new postage stamp will be launched at KBR in tribute to the Queen Elisabeth Competition and will be available for purchase on site. On that day, you will be able to buy the stamp and have your letters or postcards postmarked at KBR.
The stamp pays tribute to Elisabeth of Belgium, born in 1876, an important figure in Belgian cultural life. Passionate about music and a violinist herself, she founded the Eugène Ysaÿe International Competition in 1937, named after her violin teacher. Since 1951, it has been known as the Queen Elisabeth Competition, now one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world.
The stamp features a portrait of the Queen holding a violin. In the background is an excerpt from the manuscript score of Eugène Ysaÿe’s Sonata for Two Violins, a work dedicated to her. The competition’s logo completes the design. On this occasion, you will also be able to admire the original score in the entrance hall of KBR, from our rich musical collection, which served as inspiration for the stamp.
