PDMD raises awareness about the public domain and provides an annual meeting for the heritage sector to learn about opening up collections.

The public domain consists of all the creative works to which no exclusive intellectual property rights apply. Those rights may have expired, been forfeited, expressly waived, or may be inapplicable. Professionals in the heritage sector want to fulfill their mission towards opening up their collections to the taxpayer but are often prevented in doing so by confusing IP legislation.

Public Domain Day BE 2020 is organised by KBR, VIAA and Wikimedia Belgium with the goal of raising awareness about the public domain and to concretely make out-of-copyright heritage collections freely available to the citizen for reuse. The event is targeted specifically at members of the heritage sector in order to learn and exchange as well as private citizens with an interest in openGLAM such as the Wikimedia community which will announce this years Wiki Loves Heritage photo contest winners.

Speakers will present in English.
