Belgian Serial Publications
The ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is a standardized international identifier used to identify serial publications. Each ISSN is unique and refers to a single serial publication.
Since 1973, the Belgian ISSN National Centre, housed within KBR, has managed the numbering of Belgian serial publications. ISSN assignment is free of charge. Please note: the Centre does not manage ISBN numbers.
A “serial publication” is defined as any publication that is:
- issued in printed or non-printed form,
- published in numbered and/or dated volumes, and
- intended to continue indefinitely.
When a serial publication is issued in more than one format (e.g. print and online), a separate ISSN is assigned to each format.
