Mission
Together with the Alamire Foundation, KU Leuven’s International Centre for the Study of Music in the Low Countries, KBR hosts the research programme From Script to Sound: Connecting Heritage and Art through Research and Technology. This initiative establishes a long-term collaboration between KBR and the Alamire Foundation, further strengthening the already close ties between the two institutions.
From Script to Sound aims to unlock and valorise the rich musical heritage of the Low Countries from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance preserved at KBR. It does so through multidisciplinary and innovative research, as well as through digital projects designed to enhance the accessibility of these sources. These initiatives include the digitisation of primary sources and the development of databases that integrate relevant data and metadata. This work also provides a scientific foundation for museum-based projects and collaborations with ensembles specialising in historically informed performance practice.
By serving as a connecting framework between KBR and the Alamire Foundation, the programme supports the scientifically grounded valorisation of the musical heritage of the Low Countries and contributes to its dissemination among a broad and diverse audience.
